Armenia Lacrosse Certifies First Nine Coaches & Referees Including Three Women

Johnny Mouradian and Father Der Shnork Co-Founders of Armenia Lacrosse are pleased to announce the certification of nine Armenian Lacrosse Coaches.

The group of nine certified coaches include three ladies, Eva Avetisyan – Metsamor 1, Marina Shlikova – Metsamor 2 and Ani Sayadyan – Kaghtsrashen.

“Armenia Lacrosse is very excited and proud to have three women certified to coach and referee lacrosse. They are great role models for the young girls getting involved in lacrosse programs.”

With the content from Discover Lax Curriculum and other coaching development materials provided by World Lacrosse, Armenian Lacrosse created their first Armenia Lacrosse Introductory Level 1 Coaching and Refereeing Course.

The philosophy is for everyone to coach and referee making it easier to build the youth lacrosse vertical. Each coach/referee received their certificate for completion of the course which sets a high bar for the next group of coaches building youth lacrosse.

Aram Sargsyan who attended the clinic is developing youth lacrosse in Vayk. Aram has taken on the task to translate the level 1 course into Armenian. Once the course is translated in Armenian, course conductors will be trained to deliver the Level 1 program to coaches in new regions in Armenia.

The strategic partnership with Teny Avakian, the CEO of GOALS (Girls of Armenia Leadership Sports) and her staff identifyied the men and women interested in starting youth lacrosse programs in their region. Hagop Bedros the Youth Basketball Director at GOALS is also the Armenia Lacrosse Program Director. Hagop and Teny Avakian have enormous expertise in starting and operating sports programs in Armenia; their experience and relationships are paramount for the growth of lacrosse in Armenia.

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) recently recognized GOALS and presented them with a “Grass Roots Award,”

The award signifies the relentless commitment to grow girls and boy’s youth football in Armenia.  A well-deserved honor.

Each coach attending the program received sticks, soft lacrosse balls, sticks, a set of goalie equipment, goalie stick and will be receiving a set of lacrosse goals. The coach/referee two-day course and the equipment was made possible by donations to Armenia Lacrosse.
